The incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, who is seeking re-election in the forthcoming polls, hosted the 8th Presidential Media Chat on February 11, 2015, Wednesday.
The subjects surrounding the 2015 general elections, which have been recently shifted, supposedly for security reasons, and the PVCs issues, were the entrants to the discussion.
"In few weeks, Nigerians will see positive results on the fight against Boko Haram and the story of the chibok girls will get better. But don't quote me o"
" On Chibok Girls, I believe now that our Neighbours, I mean CHAD have indicated interest to support and help us, am sure we would get a positive response soon. I don't want to promise anything or say give us two weeks but please give us some time"----Pre. Jonathan.
"I didn't go partying after Chibok girls were kidnapped"--- Pre. Jonathan.
"I said 'Stealing is not Corruption' cause I quoted the former CJN in person of Justice Mustapha"
"Our People hates people been called thieves, they naked you, humiliate you and your family but if you say 'This man is corrupt', some don't even know the meaning... A thief should be called a thief, Ole should be called Ole... Don't use the word Corruption to qualify a thief, so I quoted Mustapha"
On Election Postponement.
"For now, no plans to suspend or sack Jega, he's my appointee, if for obvious reasons, I find him incapable, I will replace"
"I knew nothing about the postponement of Elections, if I was aware the elections would be postponed , I won't have been wasting my time and government resources'
Prof Jega did not discuss the issue with me, its with his power based on security report for him to postpone it. I have never contemplated sacking Jega.
On current Military effort against Boko Haram.
The last LGA held by Boko Haram in Adamawa will be recaptured soon, soon with the two in Yobe..
Where we have major problem is in Borno but efforts is being intensified to recapture them.
On the Call By His Associates like Edwin Clark to sack Jega.
Those are their personal views which does not have my support..
On the Threat by Asari Dokubo that they will go to war if he doesn't win.
President Jonathan said "No one will go to War in Nigeria"
There have also been threat some other parts but I can assure you that nothing of such would happen.
On the money spent on Campaign. You generated N21billion. What did you intend to do about that?
President said INEC is regulating financial budget for campaign. There is a range of money you can spend on campaign in accordance to INEC rules and regulations and I don't think we have exceeded that.
On the Handing Over
Nothing will prevent me from handing over if I lose. I have promised that May 29th is certain.
I am reassuring Nigerians that elections will be conducted in this country and a government will be inaugurated on May 29th" He said
He said there's absolutely no truth in him not wanting to relinquish power. That it's not right for anybody to want to contest an election and not be willing to take the outcome.
About his political campaign ads, he said he doesn't know most of the people placing one form of advert or the other
About Buhari, President Jonathan said the key actors around him in 2011 are different from those around him in 2015. When asked to assess Buhari, GEJ refused saying it will not be proper. "The insult that I have to carry is enormous" he said.
On $9.3m seized in South Africa, President said the matter is in court and Nigeria will soon get the money back
On why he goes to various Churches and when will he go to the Mosque?
I am a Christian and I get invites by various Churches..I cannot go to the mosque like that without being invited. I attend some moslem programmes atimes when invited but I cannot just walk into the Mosque just like VP Sambo won't just stroll into the Church because of our different Faith.
