The wife of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) General Muhammadu Buhari, Hajiya Aishatu Buhari yesterday distributed drugs and other relief items to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Damare and St Theresa Catholic Church camps.
Buhari’s wife who was accompanied by five APC leaders wives in her entourage including the former Plateau State deputy governor, Mrs Pauline Tallen, Mrs Judith Amaechi, Mrs Mairo Al-Makura, Mrs Toyin Saraki and former women affairs minister Hajiya Hajjo Sani distributed drugs worth over N135million to the displaced persons.
Hajia Aishatu Buhari expressed deep sympathy for the IDPs saying she was deeply touched by their plight stressing that “we cannot pretend not to see the situation you people are into”.
At the Damare NYSC camp which is the most populous camp in the state capital, Buhari’s wife regrets that thousand of families were displaced by Boko Haram insurgents attributing it to “lack of good leadership in the country.’’
She added that human lives should not be toyed with for political gains. “I am not here for politics nor for religion but because we’re really touched by the condition you found yourselves; we are here to share your grief”.
Mrs Buhari urged Nigerians to embrace the opportunity of change coming to the nation as it is the only way out for the country to salvage itself from its current drift.
’It’s unfortunate, that Nigerians are being turned to refugees in their country, Nigerians are in dire need of change.
‘’While we commiserate with you over the most unfortunate incident that be fall you which also brought you here, I want to also stress the need for Nigerians to consider candidates of integrity, devoid of sentiments.
‘’It’s our fervent prayers that the problems will be over, for peace and normalcy to return in the land, lets join hand to rebuild Nigeria that put in disarray,’’ she urges.
Receiving the drugs, the executive secretary of the state Emergency Agency (ADSEMA),Alh. Haruna Hamman Furo thanked Buhari adding that the gesture will go a long way in bringing succor to the displaced people.
The SEMA boss prevailed on the need for other organizations and spirited individuals to assist, ‘’the IDPs need our assistance, but should be channeled through the appropriate agencies.’’
The wife of the APC’s presidential candidate also visited ST. Theresa church where she donated relief materials.
