A proverb says "The sky is wide enough for two birds to fly without their wings touching." This is not the case for the main two political parties contesting for presidency in Nigeria.
There are strong indications that some elements are being used by the incumbent government to stop the main potential opposition party candidate Genenal Muhammadu Buhari from contesting for 2015 presidency.
The incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan’s intention to stop the 2015 election has increased to 10 cases, according to Sahara Reporters.
Three of the plans are marked at stopping the Nigeria;s electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from organising the polls.
One of the latest ways was filed instantly by the Attorney General of Plateau State and 28 others, attempting a demand of the Federal High Court to keep INEC from using the electoral register lately updated using Personal Voter Cards.
The case, named Plateau State Government & 28 others V INEC, wants the electoral body to use the same voter register that was used in 2011.
Other suits were filed by:
Selekaye Victor Ben, and targets the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) and the Nigerian military. The suit seeks an order of the court to strip Buhari of all army entitlements and another order that would put Buhari under arrest.
“Presidential View and Endorsement Platform”, headed by Barrister Smart Iheazor, involves both Buhari and INEC. It contends that Buhari’s name on the West African School Certificate certificate recently given by his school in Katsina is various from his actual name.
Sergin Onuka Ibe, blaming Buhari of filing a fake examination with INEC; he seeks a command banning the APC from handling Buhari as aspirant for 2015 contest.
An unknown litigator, who blames Buhari for being in ownership of a fake party card in which he claims to be a “civil servant”.
Lawyer Friday Ojealaro, claiming that Buhari is not clear and unequivocal, and should be disqualified;
Shield Jones Ufot V Buhari, filing a criminal ailment against General before a Magistrate court in Abuja.
Chukwunweike Okafor, against Buhari, APC and INEC, disputing at Buhari be disqualified and APC name struck out from participating in the general poll.
“Society for Advancement And Protection of Public Rights”, which asks the court to veto the use of card readers and annul the current continuous voter registration; and
Philip Agbese against INEC, seeking shift of the polls until PVCs are provided to all voters.
It was gathered that all these suits were mostly appointed to one Justice Adeniyi Ademola at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
It should be noted that INEC chairman Mr.Jega has postponed presidential elections for March 28th, citing terrorism reasons.
The shift caused outrage in Nigeria and global society. There were thoughts that it could put the country into undemocratic state.
