Above is the picture of a scene of  protest at Ilaro. The protest that ensued between the police and the indigene of Ilaro, Ogun State as a result of a policeman who allegedly shot a motorcyclist decline to offer him money according to the report made available to us.

The report also says that the policemen have killed 2 persons (the motorcycle rider and an indigene) while the indigenes killed a policeman today

The account of the eye witness says that all exits points are closed now and dusk-to-dawn curfew has been declared from 6am to 6pm

Police corporal kills motorcyclist in Ogun sparking riot

A police corporal, Moruf Awoleke, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for killing a commercial motorcylist in Ilaro town of the state, the police said.

The suspect, with force number 389719, according to a statement from the command, shot dead Hammed Posi (32) on Wednesday in the Igboro area of Ilaro in Yewa South local government area at about 10.30pm‎.

A witness said the victim was killed for violating a restriction order placed by the police on commercial motorcycles in the state.

In a reaction to the killing, youth in the town comprising mainly commercial motorcyclists and members of the butchers association in the town, embarked on a protest, barricading all roads in and around the town.

When PREMIUM TIMES visited the town, the protest‎ had paralysed commercial activities in the town as shops, markets, banks as well as the local government secretariat were hurriedly shut.‎

Another witness claimed that the deceased ‎had gone to buy food with a friend’s motorcycle but was intercepted by three police who were also riding on another motorbike.

The cops reportedly accused the man of violating the restriction order and therefore seized his motorcycle.

The victim was later shot after an argument with the officers.

The traditional ruler of the town, the Olu of Ilaro, Kehinde Olugbenle, appealed to the people of the town, particularly the youth not to take laws into their hands by revenging.

The Public Relations Officer of‎ Ogun State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrest of the suspect whom he said was already facing orderly room.
