Fear and tension are at its peak in Rivers state on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s re-run elections as news spread across the state that a Major and two soldiers were killed along the waterways in Abonnema, Akuku Toru local government area by suspected political thugs.
In a report gathered by Vanguard, the suspected thugs opened fire on the soldiers, killing two of them while about five others reportedly sustained injuries.
According to the Brigade Commander 2 Brigade, Brigadier General Stephenson Olabanji when contacted confirmed that soldiers were attacked in the area but quickly added that information on casualties was still awaited.
“Our soldiers were attacked today. Information on casualties yet to be confirmed ”
He said the Brigade spokesman, Captain Lazarus Eli will issue a statement soon on the development.
