A member of the Lagos State House
of Assembly on Wednesday commended President Muhammadu Buhari, saying his style
of leadership has earned Nigeria some successes in the last 100 days of his
administration.
In his
opinion, Moshood Oshun, the lawmaker representing Lagos Mainland Constituency 2
at the House, described Buhari as one who means well for the people of the
country adding that the President’s posture had since suggested that the
country would no longer remain the same. In an interview, Oshun said it was
only a matter of time before Nigerians would begin to bless God for the
opportunity to allow Buhari serve the country.
Oshun,
who said that he is proud to be an APC member, added that the President has
fully commenced his job with the injection of new hands into the government.
“During the campaign, he said that he was going to tackle some issues relating
to the economy, insecurity, and corruption. When he got to office, he met with
many African leaders on how to tackle Boko Haram, he held meetings with heads
of many countries on Boko Haram. The issue of security is one thing that he is
fighting and it is not something that would go away on one day. The most important
thing is that he is talking to agencies that have something to do with
security. When the security chiefs were appointed, he gave them three months to
eradicate Boko Haram, and he is still thinking along that line,” Oshun noted,
stressing that the President Buhari has been talking about the economy and how
the country’s looted funds can be retrieved.
Oshun
emphasised that every Nigerian knows that electricity has improved tremendously
in recent times under Buhari. “A petroleum vessel was seized by security
personnel recently as some people wanted to use it to steal about 100,000
litres of fuel. I can’t remember the last time we heard of such seizure in
Nigeria, but now there are so many checks and balances in place. We are now
talking about subsidy and so many things, which show that somebody is working.
PMB is a man that is incorruptible, he is a man that you cannot bribe, so the
best thing is for you to do the right thing,” he said.
On the
allegation that Buhari’s probe on corruption is selective, he said that anybody
that is making an allegation should substantiate it and that a committee has
been set up to probe anybody that is corrupt. “The committee that was set-up
was mandated to find out who the looters are, where the money that has been
allocated are. They are trying to identify missing money and all that. Nobody
has been arraigned before a committee or a court of law on corruption. The
president said that anybody who looted Nigerian money would refund it, not only
PDP members, he said anybody. So how can that be selective,” Oshun said.
Defending
Buhari on the delay in the appointment of ministers, Oshun said the President’s
action is so that he could put round pegs in a round holes. As he put it: We
rush everything in Nigeria; he needs to make sure that the people that would
work with him are those that have the interest of the people at heart. Somebody
like Governor Ayodele Fayose is not fair in his criticism. I remember he thanked
Buhari recently for appointing one of the service chiefs from his state. The
President would still balance the appointment very soon. I agree that a lot of
the appointments are from the north, but I would not say more on that because
we still have more appointments to make. Fayose has got nothing to offer and he
has shown us that many times.”
