Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state has literally come alive as no fewer than four Heads of Governments from across the West African sub region gather for the elaborate commissioning of one of the most magnificent sporting infrastructure in Africa-the Akwa Ibom international stadium..

President Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR will lead Ghanaian leader, Dr. John Dramani Mahama and Ivorian Head of State, Dr. Alassane Ouattara to the stately Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo this evening, with Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio, CON, as Chief Host.

Akpabio is showcasing the majestic facility, which has already been approved by the Confederation of African Football for the crucial 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and South Africa on November 19, as one of the key points of his uncommon transformation of the oil –rich State.

Apart from Presidents Jonathan, Mahama and Ouattara, a number of Governors from across Nigeria are expected, while President of Nigeria Football Federation, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick and some Executive Committee members and Management staff arrived in Uyo Thursday evening.

The 30,000 – capacity venue, with a bullet –proof State Box that has 70 seats, has  been described by the Vice President of Ghana Football Association, Mr. Fred Crentsil (who was sent by CAF to inspect the venue) as being “among the best you can find anywhere in the world.” -culled from source

WHAT PEOPLE SAY
I appreciate Akpabio for the stadium, but I feel world class hospital will fetch the state more revenue compare to what stadium will generate. Do u even know how much people pay to go to Indian hospital,  imagine the state with world class hospital,  probably they wouldn’t have to come for Ebola test at Lagos, ask Akpabio about BRF, he will rate him 90%, Okupe’s wouldn’t deny that am sure  Femi Ramon

@all, please let’s eschew political mischief when talking about development. Akpabio has done well, he has raised the bar. This is a masterpiece! Let’s encourage our leaders to do more. With regards to the cost, I belong to the school of thought that posits that more often than not, costs are reflectors of value. I believe whatever amount was channelled into the construction of this edifice will be realized, given sound management. Indeed, Akpabio is ‘God’s will’ for Akwa Ibomites. ----Tunji (Lagos Indicator)

@all, whilst we bask in the inauguration of this wonderful and splendid edifice and doubters still clamour for a ‘world class’ medical faclity; be informed that it is already being built by the Akwa Ibom state government under the able leadership of Gov. Godswill Obot Akpabio..-----Collins

The NEST is an international stadium which of course will be more business to live in Akwa Ibom. I remember when MKO Abiola stadium & Dipo dina Stadium, Ijebu was still stadium before it turns to bush in the last 3years with no single sporting activities in those two powerfully built(then) stadia. The 1billion per kilometer of road has no value(YES, has no value) in Ogun State considering the traffic & future traffic density of those expanded roads built at that mouth dropping costs closing down businesses and making people homeless. OGD in his administration constructed roads that leads to towns, and roads that links villages to town which are now cities. If Akpabio after constructing needful roads at minimal costs can now decided to build giant stadium to complement his effort in bringing Akwa Ibom to live, why can’t we then applaud him? Can somebody calculate the amount of schools and hospitals that will have been built if the cost of constructing a road is not at 1billion(all thanks to the APC)? Don’t get me wrong, I am not celebrating party here, atleast, Fashola is an outstanding performer till tomorrow and for his 8years in office, we have never heard of any road in Lagos built for 900m considering the over population and traffic lock jam in Lagos. Except if somebody can tell me that the usefulness of the roads built by Amosun is to enhance A1 Car race. Abeg, give it up for Godswill Akpabio of the Goodluck family jare...----- Akanni O.B.
