Islamist extremist sect, Boko Haram has brought Mubi, Adamawa State’s second largest town which was taken over by the insurgents under the sectors interpretation of  Sharia law, amputating ten residents of the town who were convicted of sundry crimes, including looting the property of residents who had fled the town, reportedly parading the the amputees.

Punch reports that an eyewitness said the amputation was done in front of residents, just as two Imams were dragged out of a mosque and beheaded for preaching against Boko Haram.

The source also said the insurgents warned the Christians in Mubi Local Government Area to relocate unless they were ready to convert to Islam, adding that the Emir of Mubi’s palace had been converted to the home of the “Amir” as the terrorists hoisted their flags to show that the palace was under their control.

Reports also say that the worst affected people were students of the Adamawa State University and the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi who were said to have gone through hell before being able to escape through border towns between Nigeria and Cameroun with some said to still be in the bush.

“I must give thanks and praises to God Almighty for spearing my life; I saw as people were being slaughtered like goats. I am too happy to see myself alive,” a female student of the Federal Polytechnic said in Yola on Sunday, November 2, 2014.

The insurgents said their mode of prayer was different from what Muslims in the town were used to and that they were “in Mubi to restore Islamic independence to the people and anybody who does not follow us must be killed”.

Another source said the insurgents told them: “We are not here to hurt anyone but to free the people from religious slavery.”
