A 23-year-old businessman, Ebuka Okolie, was on Thursday arraigned in an Ojo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a DSTV receiver valued at N216, 000.

Okolie, a businessman at the Alaba International Market, is standing trial on one-count charge of stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, ASP Godwin Eze, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 8, at the Alaba International Market.

He said that the accused had collected a DSTV receiver valued at N216,000, from his neighbour at the market, Onyeka Umeugokwe and promised to pay for it the next day.

According to Eze, the accused absconded with the DSTV receiver for several weeks without paying the price.

He told the court that when the complainant eventually located the accused and demanded payment for the goods, Okolie denied ever collecting the DSTV from him.

Eze said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The magistrate, Mrs Adenike Shonobi, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case to Nov. 14 for trial.

The offence of stealing attracts a term of three years imprisonment if convicted. (NAN)/
