The Borno State Government has denied the full take over of Bama, one of the state’s most important cities.

The insurgents were said to have launched a full scale attack on the region on Monday, making residents in the area seek refuge in safer neighbouring towns.

The military, in response, are said to have launched a more rapid airstrike on the insurgents, the bombardment which is said to have extended into late evening of Tuesday.

The Borno State Government, however, says Bama has not fallen into the hands of terrorists and is not fully captured. The State Government gave assurance that the military was currently battling to contain the terrorists and the attacks were being repelled.

Meanwhile, the military has disclosed that the curfew in Maiduguri is now from 7pm-6am. According to the Defence Headquarters, the development is aimed at preventing infiltration into Maiduguri metropolis by the insurgents who suffered heavy casualties.

The latest onslaught on Bama by the Boko Haram sect is seen as another move to add the region to its earlier taken territory like Gwoza town which the sect is said to have hoisted its flag and declared as part of an Islamic caliphate.

Bama is a border town with Cameroon, and 78 kilometres east of Maiduguri, the state capital and one of the commercial towns of the state bordering Gwoza, which has since been under the control of the insurgents.
