The lawmaker representing Borno-South Senatorial district, Senator Ali Ndume, has said that the country is not winning the war against Boko Haram, calling for renewed commitment.

Speaking to journalists in Yola, Ndume said there is nothing to suggest that the country is making progress in the efforts to restore peace, despite the resources expended. He cited attacks on Damboa and Gwoza towns as examples to the fact that the situation is not getting any better.

“The condition is moving from bad to worse, but hope is not lost. The only consolation is that this thing will come to an end. The only people left in Gwoza town now are either those who have nowhere to go or those who are too old to move.  This is not the first time that this type of thing is happening. It happened before, only that the way Nigerian is handling it is quite different”, he said.

He called for a change in strategy in the fight by relevant bodies, saying enough blood has been shed.
“Maybe we have learnt from our mistakes of handling the insurgency problem. If the right thing had been done, we will not have experienced all these in the first place. Now that it has happened, there is no point apportioning blame on any person or group, but to look for solution,” he added.

He commended Adamawa State government for giving shelter to thousands of displaced persons from Southern Borno.

“We are grateful to government and the people of Adamawa for embracing displaced persons from our state. The state received them and made them comfortable. We were able to visit four spots in Madagali, Gulak and Mubi in Adamawa State and Uba which is in Borno State and from here, we are going to Biu to see other displaced people”, he said.
