Daddy G.O. - Pastor E.A. Adeboye |
Two incidents of note happened in my life when I was much younger. The first incident happened in 1964 when I was at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. At the time, the University had an exchange programme with Michigan State University, U.S.A. to send brilliant students from Nigeria to the U.S.A. During summer to know more of America. We all looked forward to qualify, but then, we had to do some tests before one could be selected. I qualified as an "A" student and we did all kinds of examinations and we passed.
Unknown to us, there was a final examination which was a dinner party. The table was set and they gave us a bowl of soup and a roll of bread each. I grabbed the bread and dipped it in the soup and started eating. There was a man there who was taking notes. He waited until my mouth was filled before he asked me what I would do when I get to America. Because, my mouth was full, I could not answer properly and he took note.
After the meal, it was tea time. Because the tea was very hot, I began to take it with the spoon provided. At the end of the party, I failed I could not understand why I failed.
Later I got to know about table etiquette. I failed because I did not know ho to pass. Nobody told us in advance the things we were to do in order to pass. There are several people who go through life and fail ultimately because they did not know how to pass.
The second incident was on the positive side. In the University of Nsukka in those days, sports was almost the god. To be a sportsman was to be almost everything. A sportsman then was treated special; special food, provisions and so on. We even had a special table. Everybody wanted to join the team. I was in the volleyball team then. On the day of selection, 86 people turned up and they needed just six people.
Fortunately, at the beginning of the session, somebody had told me what they will do on the day of selection. He told me that we would be made to lift weights of about a hundred pounds, at least. Since we were told in advance, my friend and I started making preparations. We were doing 30 press-ups and lifting weights of 150 pounds.
Obviously, on the day of selection, we passed easily and we were selected.
"We passed because we know how to pass. Talking about your life, I do not want you to fail" he said.
It took me another 15 years after failing the test in 1964 to visit America. If you fail the test of life, there is no re-sit in Heaven.
Have you discovered God's purpose for your life. If you have not. This message is for you. Surrender your life unto Him, ask Him to show you His purpose for your life and your life will never remain the same.
If you have discovered the purpose of God for your life, abide in Him and He will perfect it to the end.
God bless you.
